Sexy Halloween

We went to a Halloween party out in San Bernardino that we've been going to for about 3 years now. I dont know too many people there but we always have a pretty good time especially checking out costumes. This year, most of the guys wore pretty cool costumes and most of the women went for the sexy look. There was a sexy cop, 2 sexy firefighters, a sexy Dorothy, a sexy bumblebee, a sexy schoolgirl, a sexy witch. Fred and I were dressed pretty tamely. I jumped on the "sexy halloween" bandwagon and went as a sexy cat. The cat part of the costume consisted of a mask, tail and a leash. The sexy part consisted of high heels and lots of cleavage. The boob overspill helped to distract people from the fact that I wasn’t wearing a real costume. I think it worked.

The worst part of the party was the bathroom and alcohol situation. Because the house had a septic tank, the women were able to use the indoor bathroom but the men had to pee in an empty lot behind the house. When it came to alcohol, there was beer everywhere you turned. But for us non-beer drinkers (mostly women), they had an alcohol table with no ice in sight. It was vodka, rum, squirt, coke and daiquiri mix. No ice. I guess no ice was a better tradeoff than having to squat in an empty lot with weeds that were noursihed from last year’s pee extravaganza.

The best part of the party was that I had someone to dance with! I know I take this for granted, but seeing all of Fred’s friends trying to find someone to dance with or talk to made me appreciate my Fred. We had a good time dancing and drinking and Fred surprised me when he knew all the words to a ghetto rap song and at the end of another song (Kanye West) he yelled “We Want Prenup” the loudest. Where did that come from?

Fred's costume was cute. He wore a foam motorcycle around his waist and a helmet. He looked like a midget motorcyclist. He picked that costume because he loves motorcycles and wanted something simple that wouldn’t interfere with beer drinking at the party. He was under-costumed compared to other guys there, but he was smart enough to take his hot girlfriend with him. With her cleavage he was able to distract people from the fact that he wasn’t wearing a real costume. Who “wants prenup” now?

Happy Birthday To Me

Although it’s been over a month since the event, I wanted to post a few pictures of my birthday celebration. It was by far one of the best birthdays I’ve had. Lots of friends, family, great food, yummy drinks and PRESENTS! We decided on a Mexican theme, so we had Mexican decorations, Mexican food, Margaritas, and the staple of the Mexican party: a baseball bat for the piñata. Oh and alot of Mexican people (all legal). To make the ambiance more "Mexican", Manyee, Caroline, Christine, the Bullo's and the Coelho's brought along their various levels of Spanish conversation skills. My family LOVED that! Of course, the alcohol helped the Spanish on a few occasions.

GUESTS
The Caroline and her “boyfriend” Manyee arrived early to help with the setup and, for Caroline at least, to get a head start on the margaritas. Little did she know that her efforts were futile as Christine already had a master plan for drinking her under the table, where I think she ended up at one point. Most of my immediate family was there as was the deedee event regulars: Fred, Christine, Lily, Francesco, Caroline, Age, Shell, Manyee, Jackie, Nav and Jeff, Okey, and MJ.

My cousin’s wife told me she didn’t want to talk with my friends because “they went to UCLA”. HA. My friends are a lot of things: sarcastic, snarky, goofy..but intellectually snobby? I don’t think so. Ok, maybe Brian goes there once in while (“hey, so what do you think about…”) but otherwise we are a pretty normal bunch of folks in spite of our college experience. I think Christine enjoyed herself the most. The picture is of Christine trying to steal my boyfriend. Step off biatch! :)

DRINKS
We had margarita menus available to all the guests to help choose among the various drinks we had picked for the occasion, thanks of course to my alcohol benefactor and drink mixing advisor, Fred. We knew people would drink, but we were a bit overwhelmed at the demand! Everyone took a turn mixing, spilling, and drinking. I think that Caroline, Manyee, Christine, and I sampled too many drinks we made for others. Fred, like always, drank like a pro. Don't know where that guy puts all those drink....The upside was that he succeeded in getting my cousin's wife trashed!

FOOD
My mom and sisters put together a lot of great food: chile relleno, enchiladas, chicken mole, rajas con queso, beans and rice. I had originally planned to barbecue, but my family scoffed at that since they knew they could make something better than charred meat to impress my friends. Manyee made my mom’s day when she saw him sneaking back for seconds, thirds, fourths…don't know where that guy puts all that food. I made my own cake, not because no one offered to make/buy me a cake, but because I had a very clear vision about what I wanted: chocolate, chocolate, chocolate...mmmmm. My sister Julie and I ruined the first cake since it broke when it came out of the pan. But the next one was perfect (at least for my tastes). Speaking of food, as part of her birthday gift, Nav brought me some of her mom's rice pudding, one of my most favorite things ever (especially sans cardamon seeds). I promptly hid it in case anyone dare ask for a sample. Step off biatches! :)

I had a great time, and I hope everyone did too. When people look back at my little party I hope they rememebr the great food, drinks, the people, oh... and my mom beating the shit out of the piñata. She must be angry about something, I just don't want to find out what it is.

Goleta or Bust!

Fred and I drove up to Santa Barbara/Goleta for the weekend to visit Lily and Francesco . Francesco is part of the UCSB Center for Control Dynamical-systems and Computation. Also known as CONTROL!We drove around Goleta for a bit and visited UCSB and gathered a bit o’ knowledge about the Chumash Indians from our local guides. Lily and the Chumash have much in common since they both enjoy games.

Thanks to the Bullo's eclectic music library, I was also able to get a hold of some music for my iPod Nano. Francesco was debuting his more-masculine black Nano (with matching shoes and shirt). I still can’t believe he took the plastic protective sheet off! So brave!
After our tour of beautiful downtown SB (especially the courthouse), we had coffee and went looking for Keith Jarrett CDs (LOVED the Japan sequence) and much romance was had (not!).

Christine joined the fun after an appointment with a potential client fell through-- she made the drive in record time. During our meal planning (we did alot of this) it was decided that Carbonara would be had! MMMMM can’t say enough about how yummy that all was! Christine loved it so much she saved some on her blouse (cue foreshadowing music). Long Live the Grati Ariete! The big event of the weekend was our cool off-road wine tasting trip through the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. We loved our little jeep tour and the wine tasting. So much wine and fun was had, although, we’re still sorting out the case of the missing #22 sandwich. Damn you Edgar! Christine loved the wine so much she saved some on her blouse (cue postshadowing music).
Our favorite winery was Kalyra. Besides the yummy wine and the beautiful dogs, our taste buds we’re still fresh so we were able to better appreciate the wine. At Kalyra, we were indeed our own best judge of wine quality!
After naps, volleyball soccer, and pizza, we headed home! Thanks for everything Lily and Francesco!

(I'll post more pictures later)

Angry Elmo

28 days until Halloween. I'm not that big on Halloween, but I can't wait to see how my nephew Jakob reacts to trick-o-treating in a costume that scares/annoys him. The picture was taken a week ago when my sister tried it on him. It didn't go over too well. He screamed when he had it on yet laughed hysterically when he was put in front of a mirror. Schizo Elmo.

Freddy's Birthday Bash

We celebrated Fred's birthday yesterday. Hot Dogs, hamburgers and a big o'l cake! It was cute to see him flustered when he had to give a thank you speech. Props to all the peeps who made the long drive, especially The Caroline and Nav/Jeff who made the almost 130-mile round trip---way to take one for the team!
